A long-time resident of Luxembourg, Chris Garratt MBE, has initiated plans to establish a Luxembourg Branch of the Liberal Democrats.

He has recently resigned from The Conservative Party and the Role of Chairman of British Conservatives in Luxembourg, and has joined the Liberal Democrats (Lib Dems).

In talking with The Luxembourg Chronicle, Chris Garratt stated "The lib dem policy is to fight for a second referendum to confirm the conditions for Brexit and to extend this vote to 16 to 18 year olds and expats."

His stance is bared around what he feels is a significant change in stance of the now British Prime Minister, Theresa May, from what he describes as "luke-warm Remain" to a definitive Brexit and "cosying up" to US President Donald Trump, which makes the right wing Conservative party no longer supportable, as Britain now appears to be determined to go down the Brexit road undeterred by "the future risk to the country or their own family wellbeing".

He revealed "I have joined the Lib Dems to actively campaign against Brexit and to support a fair deal for the UK Expats in Europe. I will be helping to set up a Lib Dem group here in Luxembourg (already over 30 members) and do what we can. The Lib Dems are the only party fighting Brexit - perhaps Tony Blair can also be persuaded to cross the floor and add strength to the opposition - there is no hope for Corbyn."
