The National Archives of Luxembourg (ANLux) has announced that it has published online a detailed inventory of a total of 426 historical documents from the “Couvent des Clarisses Urbanistes” (convent) that had been located on the Plateau du Saint-Esprit.

This inventory is a valuable research tool for any historian or student interested in the history of the role this convent played in the social and religious life of Luxembourg. The original documents cover the period from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century. They describe the daily life and monastic activities, including education for girls, the lending of money and the management of property. These historical sources, written in German, French and Latin, may all be consulted in the reading room of the National Archives of Luxembourg.

Meanwhile, the National Archives of Luxembourg has made available online 1,600 transcripts and summaries of these documents which were made in the early twentieth century by the historian Nicolas van Werveke. By making these transcripts and summaries freely downloadable, the ANLux wants to achieve easy access and understanding of their original sources and encourage researchers to explore this part of Luxembourg's history.
