On Friday, the University of Luxembourg held a graduation ceremony at its Maison du Savoir (House of Knowledge) in Esch-Belval for 320 students who had attained masters degrees from across 28 different programmes.

A total of 152 graduates were from the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF), 91 from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities, Arts and Sciences of Education (FLSHASE) and 77 were from the Faculty Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC).

In the spacious amphitheatre of the new central building of the University, the ceremony was opened by the Rector of the University of Luxembourg, Professor Rainer Klump. An official speech was then given by Candi Carrera, country manager of Microsoft in Luxembourg. Under the title "Starting a new journey. Be yourself," Candi Carrera said he would like the University to play an active role in strengthening the entrepreneurial skills of which Luxembourg needs for sustainable development and competitiveness. He concluded by stating "I am convinced that the only thing that keeps me going is that I love what I do."

Subsequently, several special awards were presented to deserving students for outstanding performance: the Germain Dondelinger prize of the Association of Friends of the University of Luxembourg went to Christian Grévisse, Annelies Vandendriessche and Erwin Grommen, the Lanners Foundation physics prize went to Daniel Kaiser, the student prize of the Luxembourg Mathematical Society went to Kevin Winkel, the Charlemagne Prize for European Youth 2015 went to Richard Legay, the Azizi-Meij prize went to Giulia Amadei, Maëlle Marescaux and Guido Moavero Milanesi, and Economist Club Luxembourg prizes went to Edvard Bakhitov, Ka Kit Iong and Fabienne Weber.

After graduation, the event was closed by a wine reception.
