A group of 63 students from the University’s Luxembourg School of Finance (LSF) celebrated their graduation on Thursday evening, entering the job market with degrees in Wealth Management, and Banking and Finance.

Students of 25 different nationalities from across the globe were conferred their diplomas at the ceremony hosted at d’Coque Amphithéâtre, with 24 students graduating from the Master in Wealth Management and 39 students graduating from the Master of Science in Banking and Finance.

Graduates had the opportunity to spend time abroad for a week in residence at Singapore Management University or New York University’s Stern School of Business as part of their degree, which also included an internship.

The ceremony saw students and their families welcomed by University vice-president for academic affairs, Professor Éric Tschirhart, and Luxembourg School of Finance Head, Prof. Christian Wolff, who both congratulated the new alumni and highlighted their academic excellence in a competitive environment. The LSF Alumni Association during a short presentation encouraged graduates to keep in touch and connect with fellow alumni through its international network.

Keynote speaker Thomas Antoine, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Luxembourg, spoke to students about the importance of integrity in their future path. “It is a duty and responsibility to be yourself,” he said, adding: “You cannot buy or sell honesty and honour”. The class valedictorians – Rafael Hubatschek (Master in Wealth Management) and XueYang Wang (Master of Science in Banking in Finance) in their speeches thanked the LSF team for an outstanding study experience. “The people you go with are as important as where you are going,” said Ms Wang.

Mr Hubatschek during the graduation ceremony also received the Pictet Prize, given to the best student in Wealth Management. Pictet Luxembourg Managing Director Pierre Etienne personally congratulated Rafael Hubatschek, who was awarded prize money worth €5,000.

The diplomas were handed out by Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance Dean, Prof. Stefan Braum, together with Prof. Christian Wolff. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail reception for students to celebrate their success.
