Prof. Jang Schiltz to Replace Prof. Christian Wolff as Head of Luxembourg School of Finance

On Friday 22 April, The Luxembourg School of Finance (LSF) at the University of Luxembourg’s Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance elected Prof. Jang Schiltz as its new head, with new study directors appointed for its Master programmes.

After ten successful years as part of the University of Luxembourg, the LSF is laying the groundwork for the future, adapting to the changing environment of the financial centre and exploring new avenues in the orientation of its activities. Under a new strategy, further emphasis will be placed on research activities in the areas of digital finance, alternative investments and risk management. Additionally, increased interdisciplinary cooperation in the field of law and finance is planned together with the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance’s Research Unit in Law. The LSF will further develop its outreach to the Luxembourg financial centre and business community – already one of its strengths – in line with a Faculty-wide effort to strengthen outreach activities.

Following internal elections, Prof. Schiltz will be replacing Prof. Christian Wolff, who took up the post as LSF head in 2008 and will remain active in research and outreach at the school in future. Prof. Schiltz in his new position will coordinate operations, internal management and study programmes. He will be supported in his role by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, Prof. Stefan Braum, who will oversee strategic development within the framework of the Faculty and take the lead on outreach activities within the Luxembourg financial centre.

The team will further be reinforced by Prof. Thorsten Lehnert, who will be taking over as study director of the Master of Science in Banking and Finance starting September. Prof. Jang Schiltz was also appointed study director of the Master in Wealth Management.

Faculty Dean Prof. Braum commented on the new leadership: “I would like to thank Prof. Wolff for his dedication and commitment to the LSF over the last eight years and extend my congratulations to Prof. Schiltz on his appointment. I look forward to working with him as part of the new LSF leadership team. The Luxembourg School of Finance is an important branch of our Faculty’s activities and we expect the new strategic orientation to further increase its relevance and visibility within the Luxembourg financial centre.”

Prof. Schiltz said on his election: “After many years teaching and researching at the Luxembourg School of Finance, I am proud to have been appointed its new head. I thank my colleagues for their trust and am excited to start this new chapter of the LSF together with them.”

Prof. Wolff will remain in his post until end of May. Teaching will continue as foreseen with no interruption to the studies of LSF students.
