On Wednesday evening, 15 June 2016, the University of Luxembourg and its International Relations Office held the annual International Awards Ceremony on Limpertsberg Campus; the event was held to honour students selected for the Global Exchange Programme and to announce the winners of the Top Student Prize and the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise Scholarship.

For many years, the University of Luxembourg has been championing international student exchanges and making a wide range of student mobility offers available to gain experience abroad. This year, over 50 students have been nominated for a stay at a partner university outside Europe as part of the Global Exchange Programme. During the academic year 2016-2017, they will be studying for one term in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Russia, Japan, China, India, Singapore or Uruguay.

University President, Prof. Rainer Klump, the U.S. Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, David McKean ,and Akira Takeda, Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy in Luxembourg, honoured the students selected this year for a study period as part of one the international programmes of the University of Luxembourg.

Furthermore, three of these students were awarded the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise Scholarship for their stay in the United States. The grant is sponsored jointly by the American Embassy in Luxembourg and by the companies EY, Goodyear Dunlop, Michelman International, PricewaterhouseCoopers, BNY Mellon, Brown Brothers Harriman, Citi, J.P. Morgan, Northern Trust and the State Street Bank. This year, Sam Bernard, a Bachelor student in psychology, Carina Fernandes Costa and Kevin Herbrink, both Bachelor students in economics and management, will benefit from the grant.

In addition, winners of this year’s Top Student Prize were honoured during yesterday evening’s ceremony. Each year, this prize is awarded to nine of the best students at the University of Luxembourg, who are invited to a three-week summer course in Asian studies at Sophia University in Tokyo. During this summer school, the students learn the fundamentals of the Japanese language and discover all about Japanese society, history and culture. They are Bachelor or Master’s students of the three faculties of the University of Luxembourg.
