The Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC) at the University of Luxembourg has announced four new cross-border projects that have received EU funding, covering subjects as diverse as safe drinking water and human-robot interaction. The projects have been founded with the aim of improving environmental protection, and reinforcing the economic competitiveness and attractiveness of the Greater Region.

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is providing €1.6 million for the projects, which should strengthen cross-border cooperation among leading actors in the region.

The projects cover programmes to reduce micro-pollutants in our drinking water — EmiSûre  —using bio-methods such as reed beds and soil filters; a project — Pth4GR²ID — to reduce waste of renewable energies through better storage solutions; logistics software — PowerReg — that will improve the transport and storage of granular industrial materials, and; Robotix-Academy which aims to build teaching and research opportunities in robotics.

The projects are organised in the context of the University of the Greater Region (UniGR), a network of the Universities of Kaiserslautern, Liège, Lorraine, Luxembourg, Saarland and Trier.

Building on this success, seven more project proposals with FSTC participation have been submitted, five within the Interreg Greater Region programme and two within the Interreg North-West Europe programme.
