On Thursday 25 June 2015, the Plateforme Nationale Cancer, which manages the implementation of the Plan National Cancer, held a general assembly for the constitution of the Institut National du Cancer Asbl (INC).

The founding organisations of the INC were also present, these being the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg; le Centre Hospitalier Emile Mayrisch; les Hôpitaux Robert Schuman; le Centre Hospitalier du Nord; le Centre François Baclesse, la Société Luxembourgeoise d'Oncologie; la Fondation Cancer; la Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner; and la Patiente Vertriedung.

The institute will aim to contribute to the fight against cancer, ensuring those affected with the illness will have access, irregardless of location, stage of disease and complexity of treatment, to a clinical course and quality care. The course of treatment will integrate all possible scientific data regarding the diagnostic, therapeutic and  rehabilitation steps of the process.

The INC's role will be that as something of a network in the field of oncology, with activities including amalgamating various professional and institutional actors involved in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer into a national project; and coordinating the organisation of oncology at a national level by linking national and foreign experts.

Further actions will involve establishing national rules of conduct for all cancer types by groups of specialised clinicians and creating national multidisciplinary consultation meetings for certain rare diseases.

The composition of the Board of Directors of the INC are as follows:

-Dr. Guy Berchem, President
-Dr. Marc Berna, Vice-President
-Dr. Michel Untereiner, Secretary
-Anne Goeres, Treasurer

The INC will commence work in the summer of 2015 and will be evaluated after the first Cancer Plan in 2018.
