The Luxembourg Cancer Foundation has awarded a cheque for €250,000 to breast cancer researcher Dr Elisabeth Schaffner-Reckinger.

As part of its plans to support breast cancer research, the Cancer Foundation, represented by its president, Dr Carlo Bock, and director, Lucienne Thommes, has awarded a €250,000 cheque to researcher Dr Elisabeth Schaffner-Reckinger from the University of Luxembourg.

The cheque has been awarded to support the research project “L-plastin Ser5 phosphorylation as a biomarker for breast cancer progression” which aims to determine the most useful type of therapy for someone with breast cancer.

One of the key objectives of the project is the identification of biomarkers as this helps predict the reaction of a patient to the prescribed medication. Therefore, these predictive biomarkers are considered essential in personalised therapy for patients.

Indeed, breast cancer is the most common and most fatal type of cancer among women in Luxembourg.
