The Grand Ducal Police issued an advisory today on Keyless-Go-Systems that allow drivers to lock, unlock and start their vehicles without using the SmartKey buttons on their SmartKey or Keyless-Go card.

According to the advisory, Keyless-Go-Systems can be exploited by thieves equipped with relatively simple electronic devices.

The Police recommend a series of precautions to help Keyless-Go-System users to secure their cars, including parking it in a garage where possible. If not, they advise not parking the car near the owner’s house. Additional precautions may be taken by switching on the alarm system, and keeping the key in a key-safe that shields radio waves so they can’t be captured by third parties. They also suggest paying attention to unexpected items placed near the driver’s door in which a scanner may have been placed.
