In an attempt to dissuade motorists from leaving their cars long-term at the Kockelscheuer and Luxembourg-Sud Park-and-Rides, and freeing up parking spaces for daily commuters, a daily charge of €10 will be levied after the first day.

The new system will come into effect from Mondasy 3 July 2017. It has already proved effective at the P&R Bouillon and the Ville de Luxembourg decided to extend the same system to the two other car parks that are both open-air.

As a result, motorists will have to collect a ticket upon entering the car-parks. these are then validated on exit; those staying less than 24 hours will not have to pay.

The Ville de Luxembourg had found that a large number of vehicles were using the two P&Rs in question for long periods of up to several days or even weeks, even though the structures are not intended for this purpose.

The aim of the Ville de Luxembourg is to direct short-term parking (up to 2 hours) on roads, with medium-term parking (3-5 hours) to covered car parks and long-term parking (5+ hours) towards P&Rs and public transport. The accessibility of the main commercial centres (Ville-Haute and Gare) are therefore intended just for customers of the establishments (shops, gastronomy, etc.) at the expense of commuters and vehicles occupying a parking space all day long.

Teh P&Rs at Beggen and Kirchberg will remain free-of-charge without any limitation in time.
