St George’s International School, Luxembourg ASBL has embarked on an Erasmus+ project, an EU programme in the fields of education, training and sport.

The Erasmus+ project for 2016-18 is called ‘Ready, Steady Work’ and has a focus on developing employability skills for students aged 14-18. As part of this exciting new venture, the school has teamed up with schools in Poland, Greece and Spain alongside the project coordinator, a school in Osijek, Croatia. The aim of this project is for schools to create an employability skills ‘toolkit’, which in turn will help teach their students about how to make themselves employable and to prepare for the world of work. The project duration is 2 years and will encompass a wide variety of tasks and activities.

The desired outcomes include: the creation of a project website, the writing of thirteen lessons plans to be used in schools to develop a better understanding of ‘employability’, the planning of and participation in three student workshops on the topics of leadership, teamwork and communication skills, and finally the creation of an employability skills toolkit. This is to be disseminated by each partner school through a presentation to students, parents, employers and representatives of other schools in their community.

The overall committee is subdivided into three teams: publicity, education and mobility. Students involved will develop and nurture a range of leadership and communication skills. The publicity team are tasked with spreading news of this project in community circles, in a variety of ways including social media platforms and keeping abreast of all updates. The education team are currently planning the first lesson on problem solving that will be rolled out before Christmas and the mobility team have preparations underway for the first visit from a partner school in February.

Everyone involved, staff and students alike, look forward to the challenges and learning opportunities ahead.
