The Anglican Church in Luxembourg has announced that, for the first time, it will celebrate a Te Deum service since Anglican services began in Luxembourg 60 years ago; it will take place at the parish church of Cents on Sunday 26 June at 18:30, in honour of the Grand Duke’s Official Birthday and the National Day.

The service is expected to attract a launge congregation, including 100 invited guests. The Anglican Church choir will be joined by friends old and new for the occasion, and will be accompanied by a professional orchestra. They will sing a shortened version of Handel’s "Dettingen" Te Deum.  he service will last about an hour, followed by a reception.

By coincidence the Luxembourg National Day is also the date of the referendum in Great Britain and Northern Ireland on membership of the European Union.

Revd Chris Lyon of the Anglican Church in Luxembourg wrote "No matter which side wins, we want to bring together people of every political persuasion within our community, to express intention to remain in Luxembourg and our gratitude for being part of a harmonious society which is rich in human dignity and diversity. This will be a moment of profound emotion for all British citizens and their friends, in Luxembourg and throughout Europe. We are looking forward to an event which is not only a religious occasion, but also a moment to share our deepest feelings, either of joy or of consolation, with many friends of other nationalities and faith communities, as well as representatives of the different political, diplomatic and E.U. institutions, and of course, representatives of British and Anglophone communities in Luxembourg."
