The supervisors of the Royal-Hamilius project gathered Wednesday to announce that French cultural and electronic retail chain Fnac will be opening up a branch in the future shopping area planned for 2017.

The opening of the Fnac shop, which will be joining Belgian department store Galeria Inno and supermarket group Delhaize as announced in June 2015, represents the company's first establishment in the Grand Duchy. It is currently present in seven countries in Europe and internationally and employs 14,500 members of staff across its 189 shops, of which 61% operate in France. Fnac will now be making its debut in the Luxembourg market, occupying a 2,000 m2 area dedicated to multimedia, leisure and iterature within the Royal-Hamilius shopping complex.

"The Royal-Hamilius project gives the possibility to brands looking for large spaces to be able to insert themselves into the city centre," commnted Thierry Behiels, CEO of the project's property developers Codic International. "Such ground is rare in the very centre. As such, the arrival of Fnac is an excellent factor in guaranteeing the attractiveness of the city by ensuring a complementaruty with existing commerce."

"The diversity of brands and the proliferation of the offer are what we hold most dear: they are the engine of an attractive and lively city for visitors and customers," continued Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg. "For the Royal-Hamilius project, as well as for retail in general, the FNAC constitutes a real added value. I am sure that it will become a true magnet from which numerous other shops in the city centre will benefit."
