For the great majority of people living in Luxembourg, Summer equals Barbecues; according to the survey conducted at the request of Lidl by TNS Ilres, the five hundred respondents aged 18 to 64 appreciate the first fine days by shared conviviality over a meal with family or friends. In the case of barbecues, it is predominatly the man who cooks, while it is often the woman who has the responsibility for purchasing the meat and beverages.

By spring, 49% of respondents are likely to meet several times a month around a BBQ, a figure that rises to 79% during the summer. In autumn, some prolong the pleasure at a less sustained rate, most with a BBQ once a month or less. And even in the cold of winter, they are still 30% who admit to have yielded at least once the joys of nature grilling.

The BBQ is mainly the preserve of the weekend, as dinner (69%), lunch (67%), public holidays (56%) or on vacation (53%). During the week, BBQs are still practiced in the evening by 37% of Luxembourgers and even during the day by 7%, a sign of a strong attachment to this friendly form of cooking.

Most opportunities for BBQs are with friends (88%). Birthdays are celebrated with BBQs by 43% of respondents (72% of 18- 24 year). And 17% will celebrate with a BBQ sporting events broadcast on television, information particularly relevant on the eve of the Euro 2016 football tournament.
 
The organisation of barbecues, which are mainly charcoal, reveals well-marked roles. 83% of men are involved in cooking, while 84% of women participate in the preparation of dishes in the kitchen after 77% of them ahve done the food shopping (47% in supermarkets, including Lidl).

In the average basket, meats are the largest, up to €50, while the budget of alcoholic or other beverages is around €10. Sausages gather 57% of the votes, ahead of beef (54%), chicken (52%) and pork (48%) in fillets, ribs or skewers.

Lidl's new BBQ offering now includes a range of BBQ foods that include Thuringer sausages, spicy sausage, lamb merguez and chipolata for skewers and meat grill. As for the 13% of lovers of seafood and fish, Lidl also offers a range of seafood products to choose from, including preparations such as marinated prawns.

All these ingredients are highlighted with spring onions, fresh herbs and prepared sauces, also available at Lidl. Those who love to grill vegetables or vegetarian products (18%) also find something to satisfy their desire in the vast selection of seasonal vegetables and fruits available in the refrigerated section of Lidl supermarkets, as well as salads.
