The Irish Ambassador to Luxembourg, Peadar Carpenter, was at Auchan in Kirchberg this morning to welcome the new range of Irish Hereford prime beef, the latest addition to the supermarket’s collection of Irish products, just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.

Irish Hereford, voted the “world’s best steak” by Beef! magazine in 2014, is now part of the extensive range of Irish products now available at Auchan. Their team, led by director of e-commerce and innovation, Otti Gardin, took Ambassador Carpenter on a culinary tour of the “Irish Aisles” showing off their selection of Irish oysters, salmon, cheeses, whiskeys, Barry’s Tea, and more besides.

“It’s great to see my Irish colleagues come in here during the week especially so they can get the things they love,” said ambassador.

Eoin Ryan, from ABP Food Group in Ireland, was also there to introduce the rich, exceptionally tender beef to Ambassador Carpenter. “This is the first time that Hereford beef has been available to consumers — rather than restaurateurs — in Luxembourg. We’re very happy about that,” he said.

Irish Hereford beef is produced using natural farming methods which contribute in producing a m eat that is rich with mineral flavours, abundantly marbled and incredibly tender. “It’s tender all year around, which makes it very distinctive,” explained Auchan chef, Valentin Alves.

Caroline Leclercq, from Rellman Foods in Belgium, especially recommended the entrecôte and t-bone, which are extensively marbled helping to give the beef its deep flavours that make it popular among chefs, including many Michelin-starred chefs who value its flavour and consistency.

Auchan is offering special deals on its whole Irish range this week, part of their celebrations for St. Patrick’s Day this year as well as plenty of tastings of cheeses, whisky and, of course, Irish Hereford prime beef. Shoppers have until 18 March to check it out.
