The Fondation Autisme Luxembourg (FAL) is celebrating its 20th anniversary on Saturday 2 April 2016 with an event on the Place d'Armes in Luxembourg city centre from 11:00.

Autism is a severe disability that affects 1 in 150 people, so approximatively 3,000 people in Luxembourg. Autism is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain, and shows up from early childhood.

At the initiative of a group of concerned parents, the Fondation Autisme Luxembourg (FAL) was established in 1996 to promote and defend the rights of people with autism in Luxembourg, whatever the severity of their disability.

Severity, symptoms and signs of autism may show a wide range of combinations and considerably vary from one person to another. Although there is no cure, much progress can be made and appropriate and early support allows people with autism to better cope with their disability.

The FAL provides:

- Diagnostic assessment, Support and training
- Accommodation and Short-term stays
- Day-care centre and Summertime activities
- Holiday camps and Leisure activities

The event on Saturday 2 April is being held on the World Day for Autism Awareness, and includes a varied programme:

• Events and concerts
• Games and workshops
• Distribution of balloons and a big balloon release
• Blue Illumination of buildings
• Hot Air Balloon
• Screening of the film Rainman starring Dustin Hoffmann
• Raffle

Good fun is guaranteed for both young and old!
