Bee Together is organising an event on 5 May from 18:45 to discuss therapies involving the honeybee, and the pros and cons of the medical use of bee products supported by scientific research.

The Roman natural philosopher Pliny the Elder (Gaius Plinius Secundus, 23 A.D. - 79 A.D.) once said „Ubi apis ibi salus (wherever there are bees, there is health). Almost everyone has heard of home remedies containing honey to relieve health issues, such as milk and honey for sleeping or tea and honey to treat cold-symptoms.

Therapies involving the honeybee have existed for thousands of years and some may be as old as human medicine itself.  Apitherapy is the medicinal use of products made by honeybees. It is practiced by apitherapists, natural health professionals, specialised in the medical use of bee products:  honey, propolis, royal jelly, pollen, beeswax, apilarnil, bee venom and even hive air.

However, apitherapy is not the miracle solution to all our pains. In fact there are limitations and risks associated with the use of bee-products in medicine. Join the event to hear more. Dr. Nicola Popp has been living in Luxembourg since 2010.  As a family doctor she has focused on conservative therapies. Her interest regarding the use of bee products in medicine developed recently when her partner became a passionate beekeeper.  Since then, she is researching literature to better understand Dr. Bee´s multiple contributions to our health.

The cost of the event is based on the principle of: Pay What You Wish. You decide how much you would like to donate.  Please bring cash that you can put in the donation box.

The money collected from the event will be used by Bee Together to purchase protective clothing (e.g. veil and gloves) to allow the public to visit our beehives to raise awareness of the importance of bees and pollinators for biodiversity and our food production.
