On Tuesday evening, the Chinese community in Luxembourg together with friends of China, gathered at Casino2000 in Mondorf-les-Bains for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
As well as the Ambassador of China to Luxembourg, Huang Changqing, the event also attracted a host of business leaders and politicians, including Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Etienne Schneider, Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Francois Bausch, Minister for Justice, Félix Braz, Secretary of State for Culture, Guy Arend, Vice President of the Chambre des Deputés, Laurent Mosar, and many more.
In the brief welcome speeches, Ambassador Huang Changqing addressed the close-to-400-strong attendance and welcomed in the Year of the Monkey. And Prime Minister Xavier Bettel joked that he could have organised a cabinet meeting with all the members of the government in attendance.
Organised by Euro-Asie, Chinalux (the China-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce), the Embassy of China in Luxembourg and the Ville de Mondorf, the evening included a spectacular dinner of specialities normally served at such Chinese New Year dinners, with presentation and taste to the fore, followed by an entertainment show featuring various Chinese entertainers across a broad spectrum of culture, including dancers from Chengdu, circus jugglers, solo playing of various Chinese musical instruments, Chinese puppets, Chinese acrobats, Chinese singers and Chinese opera.
