On Friday 22 July 2016 the new Skatepark Péitruss was inaugurated in Luxembourg city’s Pétrusse valley.

The Skatepark Péitruss, located at Rue St. Quirin, vallée de la Pétrusse, is an initiative of the Ville de Luxembourg and is intended to be qualitative, functional and very attractive as it is perfectly integrated into the natural setting of the Pétrusse valley and its surroundings.

The ‘skate’ ramps are made entirely of concrete and the total area of the site covers 3,400 m2, with a net surface area for skateboarding of 2,500 m2. The rest is divided as follows:

* Traditional street: 1,300 m2;

* Streetplaza: 600 m2;

* Bowling area: 600 m2

70 % of the area of the skatepark project is located on the grounds of the old gas plant in the Pétrusse valley.

The creative, sensible and coherent integration of the skatepark into the historic environment of the valley was of great importance. Thus, the planning of the landscaping was carried out with an exceptional degree of sensitivity both with regards to the development of the skatepark as well as at the level of the entire system.

The demarcation of structures and division of the skatepark were made in the form of ruined walls. These structures were modeled after the construction of "Vauban", respectively the pentagram design principle.

An important planning objective was to create optimal usability, ensuring high functionality and to set up an attractive system adapted to the different user groups (skateboard, inline-skate, BMX, etc.) and, on the other hand, users with different skill levels (children, beginners, advanced skaters). Another important element in the design of the skatepark was to ensure that it would resemble the old fortress.

The construction of the skatepark began in November 2015 and was completed in July 2016. It is estimated that the total cost of the project amounted to €2,033,940.
