The Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO) has announced a new addition to their catalogue of guided tours around the city, entitled “Karl IV und Luxemburg”, taking place on Sunday 31 July 2016 at 15:00.

This year, the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV (1316-1378), Count of Luxembourg, King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor, is being celebrated. On this occasion, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office (LCTO), in collaboration with the History Museum of the City of Luxembourg and the Czech Embassy in Luxembourg, is organising an exclusive guided tour.

The tour of medieval Luxembourg (a UNESCO World Heritage site) is connected with the visit of two exhibitions which are dedicated to the historical figure. Starting from the special exhibition "Charles IV" at the History Museum of the City Luxembourg, the multiple relationships between Bohemia and Luxembourg are experienced during the city tour. The visitors will not only discover the birth and burial place of Karl's father, John of Bohemia, but also a part of the fortifications that were built under the reign of Wenceslas II, King of Bohemia and Duke of Luxembourg. Finally, there is the sculptural confrontation with Charles IV in the Neimënster cultural centre.

Charles IV is considered one of the major rulers from the Middle Ages. The city of Prague owes its university and numerous buildings, including the famous Charles Bridge, to him.

The meeting point of the tour is in front of the LCTO at Place Guillaume II at 15:00. The tour will be explained in German. Admission is free. Registrations are at the LCTO or by tel: 222809.
