On Friday 19 September at 17:00 the biggest annual public event in Luxembourg, the Schueberfouer, will commence at the Glacis car park in the centre of Luxembourg city.

This will be the 676th edition of Schueberfouer, the annual fun fair in Luxembourg. The fair will go on for 20 days, until Wednesday 7 September 2016. From Sundays to Thursdays, the fair will be open from 11:00 until 01:00 whereas on Fridays and Saturdays the fair will remain open until 02:00.

The fun fair attracts over two million visitors every year, making it the biggest event in Luxembourg and in the region surrounding the Grand Duchy. This year, there will be 190 rides, restaurants, confectionery shops, shooting galleries and 90 other stalls.

There will be eight new attractions this year, namely “Live Horror Show”, “Die grosse Geisterbahn”, “Mille Pattes”, “XD Theater”, “Hangover”, “Crazy Outback”, “Mini-Quad” and “Thriller”, with another 9 attractions returning, having been absent in 2015.

As in the previous years, a Schueberfouer app is available for free for iPhone and Android mobile phones. With the mobile app, users have access to find the location of the different attractions, the restaurants, bars, practical information about accessibility and transport, location of cash dispensers, drinking water stations and toilets. This year, the Schueberfouer app further allows you to categorise the different attractions in terms of favourites. This way, visitors can easily find these attractions when they visit Schueberfouer again. There is also a website, www.fouer.lu, where all the information that is on the mobile app is also published.

The Schueberfouer is also accessible for blind or visually impaired people and people with disabilities. Information regarding accessibility for people with special needs can be found on the website as well as on the app.

To facilitate access to the site and avoid nuisance to local residents, the organisers encourage visitors to enjoy the free shuttle bus service. These shuttle buses will run every 10 minutes between the main P+R (Bouillon and Luxembourg-Sud) and the Glacis. Moreover, there are 850 parking spots available in the immediate vicinity of Glacis on Place de l’Europe, serviced by regular shuttle buses. Finally, other car parks offer a large number of parking spaces (Stade, Trois Glands, Konrad Adenauer, Auchan and Coque 1 and 2), which are served by public transport. The Parkleitsystem, a route guidance system, allows drivers to be guided to free parking.

33 % of the traders and partners of Schueberfouer are Luxembourgish, 35 % are French, 16 % are Belgian, 14 % are German, 1 % are Dutch and finally 1 % are Swiss. This means that the fair has a relatively international character.

On the final evening of Schueberfouer, Wednesday 7 September 2016, the fair will close with fireworks. This is organised by the Ville de Luxembourg and the Comité International des Festivités de la Schueberfouer asbl on the Pont Grande-Duchesse Charlotte (Red bridge).

The poster and entrance of the Schueberfouer is designed by Ha Dang Nguyen, who won the competition for the design in 2014.
