Luxembourg agriculture association Lëtzebuerger Landjugend a Jongbauer is hosting “Bauerenhaff an der Stad” at the Place de la Constitution on 1 and 2 April, as part of a drive to raise public awareness of local agricultural production methods.

Over the past few decades, farmers have not been active in providing consumers with targeted information about how they produce the food they bring to market. The image of agriculture has slowly detached from reality across Western societies and as a result, consumers often know very little about how the food they eat is produced. However, on various platforms, agriculture is being discussed and often strongly criticised.

The industry is aware that it needs to reach out to consumers to help them understand the realities of agriculture and show how food is really produced today.

The "Bauerenhaff an the Stad" aims to give the younger members of the organisation the chance to directly communicate with consumers and give their side. The exhibition will present the main species of livestock that Luxembourg farming relies upon, dairy cows, suckling cows, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits as well as demonstrations of husbandry and production, including milking and shearing.

A farmers’ market presenting products from the region, workshops, a petting zoo and plenty more activities for children are also on the cards.
