On Monday 2 May 2016, Luxembourg City officials inaugurated the new two-way bicycle route on rue de Mühlenbach to improve movement in the region.

At the presentation, which was attended by Luxembourg City's Mayor, Lydie Polfer, and Deputy Mayor, Sam Tanson, it was announced that the City decided to partially redevlop the bicycle route n°11 linking place Dargent to the Ville Haute district, patricularly on the lower stretch of rue Mühlenbach from the 'Eecherschmelz' site until 'Stuerkebierg'.

According to City authorities, this one-time optimisation will provide for a more comfortable and secure circulation for cyclists travelling amongst mixed traffic.

The introduction of this new bicycle route section on rue de Mühlenbach forms part of the bicycle concept which has as its aim the optimisation of the existing infrastructure and the enhancement of the safety and quality of bicycle traffic in an urban environment. It is also an extension of the general concept of soft mobility, as promoted by Luxembourg Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch.

The new path means that the cycling network of the capital is now connected to the Pfaffenthal lift, allowing cyclists to gain easier access to the vallée de l'Alzette and the Ville Haute.
