This coming Sunday, 3 July 2017, the new TGV Est line linking Luxembourg and Strasbourg is to be inaugurated, meaning that train journeys between the two cities will be cut to 1 hour 39 minutes.

Following th elaunch of the Luxembourg-Paris TGV line in 2007, the Luxembourg-Strasbourg line opening represents the realisation of the second phase of the project following the MoU signed to connect Luxembourg to the TGV East line.

The new Luxembourg-Strasbourg TGV link will be served by two round trips daily, with 2 direct connections daily offered to Mulhouse, Dijon and Lyon in France, and one connection daily to Zurich (Switzerland) via Mulhouse, lowering the Luxembourg-Zurich travel time to 4 hours and 2 minutes. Similarly, Marseille can now be reached in 7 hours 22 minutes (1 connection daily) and Monpellier (1 connection daily) in 7 hours 38 minutes.

The inaugural TGV train for Strasbourg leaves Luxembourg this Sunday at 07:23, with the train arriving in Strasbourg at 09:01.
