On Wednesday 12 July, LuxTram successfully undertook the first day of testing and trials of the new tram network that is scheduled to open on 10 December this year.

The testing and testing phase was undertaken in the presence of François Bausch, Luxembourg's Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, and Sam Tanson, alderman of the City of Luxembourg.

During this phase, the tram will run on its platform and share the public space with other users. It is designed to check all the tramway's functionalities and takes place in several stages.

The first phase of testing involves leaving the new Tramsschapp in Kirchberg and travelling between the stops at LuxExpo and at the Coque. During this period, the overhead power cables are carring live 750 volt electricity. In November, the tram will operate under normal operating conditions, but without passengers.

LuxTram will be organising two Open Days together with its public transport partners on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September.
