The Association de Soutien aux Travailleurs Immigrés (ASTI) has organised three events on the topic of human migration linked to environmental and climate changes, for Wednesday 25 January 2017.

Human migration linked to climate and environmental changes, whilst not so present in the media at the moment, are at the heart of questions of adaptation, economic and social development, security and rights’ protection, the management of crises and catastrophes, social consequences of climate change and environmental damage, as well as international governance.

In order to spread awareness about this type of migration as well as highlight the importance of having a managed and planned migration related to environmental challenges, ASTI has organised three related events.

The first is a conference-breakfast focusing on climate change as a motor of migration. This will take place at Salle Rheinsheim at Altrimenti (5 avenue Marie-Thérèse, Luxembourg). Dina Ionesco, who is an expert on migration issues linked to the environment and climate change at the International Migration Organisation in Geneva will be present, along with Daria Mokhnacheva and François Gemenne.

The second event is a seminar dealing with the same subject but will take place at Neimenster in Grund between 16:00 and 18:00. Registration should be made via email: events@etika.lu. Following the seminar, there is the possibility of having a three-course dinner with drinks for €22 per person, for which registration is also essential.

The final event, also on 25 January 2017, is a public debate conference at Neimenster, starting from 19:30. At this event, Dina Ionesco will give a key note speech and there will be other speeches from the Minister of the Environment, Carole Dieschbourg, and Dietmar Mirkes from ASTM.

The evenings will be in French and those present at the debate will receive a drink on behalf of the Ministry of the Environment.
