Luxembourg’s Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel and Minister of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch made an official visit to Kazakhstan last Thursday and Friday, 21 and 22 May, where an aviation agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) were signed.

The former was signed by François Bausch and his counterpart, Asset Issekechev, while the latter was sealed between the Kazakhstan National Bank and the Financial Technology Transfer Agency (ATTF).

Upon arrival, the two Luxembourg ministers were welcomed by Kazakh Prime Minister, Karim Massimov, at the ‘Government House’ in Astana, to discuss bilateral relations between the EU and Kazakhstan. They also addressed and focused on issues on the current political agenda, as well as the upcoming Luxembourg Presidency of the EU Council, beginning in July.

Following the aforementioned signings of the agreements, and an official lunch with PM Massimov, the Luxembourg contingent proceeded to the Akorda Presidential Palace, where they met with President, Noursoultan Nazarbaiev to further discuss the current international political landscape, agenda and priorities, as well as bilateral relations.

On the second day, Prime Minister Bettel delivered the opening speech to the plenary of the Astana Economic Forum.

The Luxembourg PM also took the opportunity to meet briefly with Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius, to discuss the upcoming EU Presidency.
