On 6 and 7 September 2015, Luxembourg Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Jean Asselborn, will be in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem at the invitation of Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.

In addition to meeting his Israeli counterpart, Minister Asselborn will also reportedly meet with President of the State of Israel, Reuven Rivlin, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Israeli Chief Negotiator for Israeli-Palestinian negotations, Silvan Shalon.

The Luxembourg Minister will also conduct meetings with the leader of the opposition in the Israeli parliament, Isaac Herzog, and Ahmad Tibi, a vice-chairman of the Knesset, which passes all laws in Israel.

Minister Asselborn is due to address current regional issues with the Israeli authorities, discussing Israeli-Palestinian relations and the revitalisation of the peace process in the Middle East.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs stated that the meetings are expected to help address current issues in international politics, including the Syrian conflict and potential solutions to improving the situation on the ground. Talks will also focus on Israeli-Iranian relations, particularly following the conclusion of the Iranian nuclear agreement, which Minister Asselborn will also be discussing here in the Grand Duchy at tomorrow's 'Gymnich' informal meeting.

Jean Asselborn will also use the opportunity to assess bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Israel.
