A total of fifteen businessmen and busineswomen from Luxembourg travelled last week on the first ever trade mission to Ethiopia by way of an initiative organised by the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the Luxembourg Embassy in Addis Ababa and the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The economic mission was officially launched at a "Ethiopia-Luxembourg" round table event in the presence of HE Mr. Regassa Kefale, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which Luxembourg companies were informed about business opportunities in Ethiopia. The presence of a hundred Ethiopian companies at the round table testified to the great interest shown by the local business community for the Luxembourg market.

Some specific projects have already been developed, including the signing of a partnership agreement for the joint development of a micro-wind system and supply of electronic components. The opening session was followed by the signing of a "Memorandum of Understanding" between the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations of Addis Ababa.

HE Jean-Marc Hoscheit, Luxembourg Ambassador to Ethiopia, and Jeannot Erpelding, Director of International Affairs of the Chamber of Commerce, illustrated the diversity of the Luxembourg economy while highlighting the business opportunities presented for both countries across various sectors including aviation, logistics, offices, ICT, renewable energy, etc.

In the afternoon business meetings with companies and local authorities were organised for the Luxembourg delegation. The first day ended with a reception offered by the Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Luxembourg.

For many of the participants this trade mission in Ethiopia was a first step and deserves to be continued. The success of this first mission also confirmed the new approach strategy of the Chamber of Commerce for the sub-Saharan African market.
