Monday 2 May 2016 marked the first day of a Luxembourg economic mission in China led by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of the Economy, Étienne Schneider.

The mission kicked off with a reception in Hong Kong assembling the Luxembourg business delegation and the Grand Ducal business community based in Hong Kong. Thirty representatives of the Hong Kong-based Luxembourg community were present for the occasion to exchnage views with those in attendance.

The mission will continue today with a sminar in Hong Kong to present the Grand Duchy as a tourist destination. The official delegation will then travel to Shanghai to join TRH the Hereditary Grand Duke and Duchess, who will chair the economic mission in Shanghai and Beijing, where it will end on Friday 6 May 2016.

The trip forms part of a commitment to deepen the work in investment promotion started several years ago. In addition, the mission aims to position Luxembourg as a centre of innovation in a context where the Chinese government encourages enterprises to invest more in R&D. The mission focuses on the automotive sector, particularly present in Luxembourg, and for which China is the biggest market in the world. In addition, promoting the Grand Duchy and its tourist attractions forms another part of the programme.
