Attracting nearly 5.5 million visitors annually, the Europa Park in Rust in Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany is the largest entertainment complex in Germany and one of the most visited amusement parks in Europe; at a Luxembourg party held during the weekend of 11-12 June 2016, the theme park has promoted the traditions, customs and certain cultural and musical characteristics of the Grand Duchy.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the centre of the Europa Park in front of the Historama which officially became the "Place du Luxembourg": this hosts a large bronze statue of Melusine, the mermaid symbol of Luxembourg city, and is decorated with Grand Ducal symbols and colours of the flag of Luxembourg.

official representative of the Luxembourg Government, the Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, said in her speech: "I thank the site owner Roland Mack for offering Luxembourg the opportunity to be part of the top seasonal recreation park in the world. Through this presence, the opportunity is offered for the Grand Duchy of reporting to be marketed to a large audience as a European country that is friendly as a place to live. I invite park visitors to come and discover the many assets that make Luxembourg a tourist destination of choice."

Many guests of honour from Luxembourg had made the trip to Rust for the opening ceremony, including the actor Tommy Schlesser, the Minister for Family and Integration and Minister of the Greater Region, Corinne Cahen, the current Miss Luxemburg, Ada Strock, and actress Désirée Nosbusch who was moderator for the event.
