Luxembourg is one of the first countries to have formally confirmed its participation at Expo 2020 in Dubai.

During their visit to the United Arab Emirates on 23 and 24 October 2016, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy, Étienne Schneider, along with the general commissioner for Luxembourg for Expo 2020 Dubai, Maggy Nagel, officially confirmed Luxembourg’s participation in the World Expo.

The confirmation, which was made during a meeting with the president of Expo 2020 Dubai’s Higher Committee His Royal Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed All Maktoum, makes Luxembourg one of the first countries to formalise its participation in the event.

Expo 2020 Dubai expects to welcome over 25 million visitors with over 70% coming from outside of the UAE.

Minister Schneider and Maggy Nagel also met with the Minister of State for International Cooperation and directing manager of Expo 2020 Dubai’s Bureau, His Excellence Reem Al Hashimy. Likewise, they met with Sultan Al Mansouri, Minister for the Economy in the UAE, to discuss economic relations between Luxembourg and the UAE, which is the Grand Duchy’s most important business partner in the Golf region of Abu Dhabi. The total amount of commercial exchanges between the two was almost €580.000.000 in 2015.

Luxembourg has maintained close bilateral relations with the UAE for many years. The first diplomatic mission to the Golf region in 2011 demonstrated the good relations between the two countries.
