Following an article published in The Luxembourg Chronicle last week, the Belgian authorities are now treating the recent death of 62 year-old Yves Chandelon as suicide.

On Friday 16 December, the body of the senior NATO official was discovered in a car in Andenne in Belgium with a single gunshot to his head. Yves Chandelon was working at NSPA (formerly NAMSA) in Capellen in Luxembourg at the time of his death and is understood to have attended his office Christmas party on the evening he died. Andenne in Belgium is located between Capellen in Luxembourg and his home in Lens, Belgium.

Belgian police investigating the incident are understood to have found a suicide note which contained details of financial losses he had incurred on investments he had made without the knowledge of his family. The Belgian investigators are understood to be still investigating the details.

Working as an auditor for NATO, Yves Chandelon is understood to have been investigating terrorism financing and money laundering activities.

He was also the former director of The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) in Luxembourg.
