In response to the decision by the American president, Donald Trump, to cut US foreign aid to organisations that provide or counsel safe access to abortions across the world, representatives from almost 50 countries gathered in Brussels last Thursday, pledging €181 million to support women around the world.

Luxembourg Minister for Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, Romain Schneider attended the conference, titled “She Decides — Global Fundraising Initiative” which was hosted by Belgium.

Female and child health is among the priorities of Luxembourg development cooperation, and the minister took the opportunity to confirm Luxembourg's political support for the Dutch initiative She Decides, and to announce a financial contribution of €2 million to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), which manages, among other things, family planning supplies programmes.

The minister also said he was ready to release additional funds should more information about the negative effects of recent US President's decisions on global funding appear.

Luxembourg also supports the "Global Citizen" campaign, which is mobilising for “She Decides" and who thanked Luxembourg for its commitment to the health of girls and women around the world.
