Two volunteers from the emergency response administration humanitarian task force and a satellite telecommunication system from the emergency.lu project were dispatched to Madagascar on 14 March 2017 at the request Of the World Food Program (WFP) to support the efforts of humanitarian actors after Cyclone Enawo struck the capital city, Antananarivo, with gusts of wind reaching up to 300 km/h.

A category 4 cyclone, this was the most powerful to hit the island since cyclone Giovanna in 2012 and thousands of people are now stranded, requiring emergency assistance in the coming weeks as the country recovers.

Luxembourg’s mission aims to provide connectivity to humanitarian organisations working in Madagascar, as well as to populations affected by this natural disaster.
