Luxembourg will be present at the FIRST Globbal Robotics Olympics that is taking place from 16-18 July at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington DC, USA.

FIRST Global organises a yearly international robotics challenge to ignite a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) among the more than two billion youths across the world. The not-for-profit public charity provides the framework for an “olympics”-style robotics challenge where one team from every nation is invited to participate in a global robotics event that builds bridges between high school students with different backgrounds, languages, religions and customs. By bringing these future STEM leaders together in an engaging and collaborative competition that drives home the importance, excitement and applicability of STEM education, FIRST Global inspires students to learn the skills they will need to make the discoveries their parents and grandparents would consider miracles, impossibilities, or just plain science fiction.

The FIRST Global Challenge is an international robotics event where students from nearly 160 nations across the world will travel to Washington, D.C. this July to participate in the inaugural game that will be held in different nations each year. Teams are composed of high school students with the goal of increasing their knowledge of STEM so they can become the next generation of scientific leaders who will work together to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems. Each team has a story to tell and a mission to accomplish

The Luxembourg team members include Pit Baum (Captain), Atreyam Sharma (Official Spokesperson), Laura Marker, Kimon Leners, Shawn Teusch, Lina Chen and Yannick Martins Dos Santos, with Ronny Osweiler and Annabel Schoellen as team mentors.

The team got their kits shipped to Luxembourg in April and they have been building the robot and programming it for the challenge. They have been meeting several times a week regularly to build and program the robot and have carried it with them to the event.

Before they departed, they were photographed with Luxembourg's Primne Minister, Xavier Bettel.
