The national Economic Committee, chaired by Secretary of State for the Economy, Francine Closener, met yesterday, and discussed the growing number of companies wishing to benefit from the partial unemployment aid mechanisms.

A full unit increase of such companies, in relation to the previous month (March), meant a total of twelve companies have now introduced the award of partial unemployment applications, in order to take advantage of the provisions from these measures over June 2015.

Following an analysis of the applications received, the Economic Committee green-lit eleven of the twelve companies’ requests, however the final say of whether these businesses, which are going through a difficult financial period will be granted financial assistance, remains with the Government Council. In the related companies, a total of 1,772 people, of which 774 are employed, work reduced hours.

The expenditure under the Employment Fund for June 2015 is set as €843,000, pending approval of the Government Council to grant the companies full support for the partial unemployment schemes.
