The European Consumers' Organisation and its Luxembourg member ULC met yesterday with Fernand Etgen, Luxembourg Minister for Agriculture, Viticulture and Consumer Protection, to submit its expectations for the Luxembourg EU Presidency.

The discussion between Minister Etgen and ULC (Union Luxembourgeoise des Consommateurs Nouvelle Asbl) focused particularly on resistance to antibiotics, the official controls on food and on the internal market strategy. In the case of the latter, the Luxembourg Government has expressed its interest in developing the progress of geo-blocking, the system which restricts access to videos and other content based on the geographic location of the user.

"A number of major initiatives such as the Digital Single Market, the rights of air passengers and the Energy Union will continue under the Luxembourg Presidency," said Monique Goyens, Director General of The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC). "It is essential that these initiatives progress whilst paying particular attention to the needs and expectations of its consumers. This is especially true in the case of coordinated implementation in the field of consumer protection by national authorities."
