The spate of recent fire outbreaks in Luxembourg continued when police received reports at 02:40 this morning from witnesses claiming flames had erupted in the roof of a residential building along Rue Jean Origer in the Gare district of Luxembourg City.

The top floor and roof structure of the building were engulfed and the fire spread to an adjacent building on Avenue de la Gare where the pressure caused glass to burst onto the street. Police units evacuated all residents in the surrounding area and after a lengthy struggle from the fire brigade the fire was contained.

At this stage, no one seems to have been injured and no cause for the outbreak of the fire has been given. Police and firetrucks were still involved in the clearing of the site at 09:00 this morning, with the footpath remaining cordoned off and eyewitness reporting the air in the area as still thick with the smell of smoke.
