On 7 October 2015, the Grand Duchy will host the first informal meeting of Ministers for Transport in its capacity of Luxembourg Presidency of the European Union, to discuss cycling as a transport mode.

At the meeting, the Ministers of Member States of the European Union (EU) and European Free Trade Association will discuss how the EU and its affiliated countries could stimulate and support an increase in cycling as a chosen mode of transport for people and goods. The Luxembourg Presidency intends to emphasise the efficiency of cycling as a transport mode, as well as cycling's social, environmental and economic benefits in the EU.

Introductions will be made by various figures in the transport sector, including Minister for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, François Bausch, and European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, before presentations from architect and author, Jan Gehl, and urban design expert and CEO of Copenhagenize Design Company, Mikael Colville-Anderson.

A range of conventional bikes, e-bikes, cargo-bikes and bike-taxis will also be made available for participants to try out on a cycling circuit inside the conference centre. After the meeting, they will receive the opportunity to join Luxembourgish 2010 Tour de France winner Andy Schleck on a bike ride to the official dinner, in order to experience first-hand the advantages that bicycles have to offer.
