The role of Inspector General of the Luxembourg Police yesterday passed from Marc Zovilé to Monique Stirn at a ceremony attended by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Internal Security Étienne Schneider and Minister for Justice Félix Braz.

Monique Stirn was appointed the position of Inspector General by Grand Ducal Order on 25 August 2015 and assumed the role on 1 September 2015. She has previously acted as Vice-President of the district court of Luxembourg, as an examining magistrate and as a judge.

"In order to strengthen the independance of the Police General Inspectorate, the coalition agreement of the current government placed a magistrate at the head of the supervisory body," explained Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Security, Étienne Schneider, during his speech at the ceremony. "Thanks to her experience at the office of examining magistrates, Ms. Stirn has a perfect understanding of the operation of the Grand Ducal Police and particularly of the judiciary."

Étienne Schneider went on to state his regret at the retirement of Stirn's predecessor Marc Zovilé, thanking him for the outstanding leadership and professional commitment he demonstrated during his 40-year career with the Gendarmerie, the Grand Ducal Police, the Judicial Police Service, and particularly as Inspector General of the Police.
