On 18 August 2015, a cat in Vichten had emergency surgery to have its paw amputated after a suspected incident of animal cruelty.

A resident on Rue des Vergers was horrified after opening her door to an unidentified woman, finding the home-owner's pet cat lying on the ground, covered in blood. Seeing that the cat had been badly injured with an open wound on its abdomen, the animal was immediately taken to a veterinary practice for emergency surgery.

The extent of the injury sustained was so grave that the cat's hind law had to be amputated, with the veterinarian on-hand voicing the opinion that the damage was the result of an act of animal cruelty.

As the identity of the woman who rangthe doorbell is hitherto unknown, the Grand Ducal Police are requesting that the witness get in touch with CI Mersch on 4997-9500, and that members of the public with any information on the incident relay it immediately to Mersch Police.
