With 2015 drawing to a close, the time has arrived for the 2016 calendar of the Greater Region calendar to be revealed, which for its next edition will be highlighting creativity and innovation.

The 2016 calendar was presented on Thursday 26 November 2015 at the European Museum in Schengen, and as in previous editions will aim to invite people to visit various areas within the Greater Region.

Part of the calendar focuses on the subject of innovation, with Wallonia revealing the smart street lighting in Bierges which detects cars at nighttime and illuminates the part of a road where a vehicle is, turning itself off again once the car has passed. The calendar also pays tribute to a community facility in Saarland's Türkisheim-Nohfelden, which in 2015 received the highly competitive prize of 'Strong School. Best German Schools'.

Creativity is represented by the Upper Middle Rhine Valley in Rhineland-Palatinate, which contains some of the most interesting tourist attractions of the river. A Koblenz pastry chef has the idea to represent this valley using the three dimensional data provided by the Landesamt für Vermessung and Geoinformation to create a chocolate bar.

Siersburg in Saarland, Place Stanislas in Nancy (Lorraine), the Euro Space Centre in Transinne (Wallonia) and the Konstfestival in Lellingen (Luxembourg) will equally by highlighted.

The institutions of the Administration of Maps and Topography of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Institut Géographique National of France, Préfecture de Région Lorraine, Institut géographique national de la Belgique, Landesamt Vermessung, Geoinformation und Landentwicklung des Saarlandes and Landesamt für Vermessung und Geobasisinformation Rheinland-Pfalz all participated in the preparation of this calendar.

The presentation was concluded with a minute's silence to commemmorate the victims of the attacks in Paris.

The calendar is distributed for free by the Administration of Maps and Topography only to Luxembourg residents. Orders are accepted only on the phone number +352 44 901 1, and the copy must be picked up from the central adminsitration building at 54, Avenue G. Diderich in Luxembourg within three days of a submitted order or will be cancelled.
