On Tuesday 1 December 2015, Lydie Polfer, Mayor of the City of Luxembourg, welcomed the mayor of the Cypriot city of Famagusta, Alexis Galanos, to the Hotel de Ville on Place Guillaume II.
Mayor Galanos was accompanied by Costas Hadjikakou, leader of the Democratic Rally political party and Chryssanthos Zannettou, leader of the AKEL political party, the two parties being represented in the Municipal Council of Famagusta.
During the visit, they discussed issues such as local governance and the reforms planned in Cyprus, as well as the current situation of Luxembourg and the rest of Europe, challenges such as immigration, the Cyprus issue and more generally the role that Cyprus should politically and strategically play in a region with many turbulences.
