Luxembourg Police have warned residents to remain vigilant after a recent upsurge in burglaries in the Greater Region.

In one night, a total of three houses in Perl, Saarland, were broken into whilst the inhabitants were asleep inside, and all showed a similar modus operandi.

In each case, the car parked in front of the home was broken into and the remote for the electric garage doors stolen. The perpetrators used these to open the door and were then able to get inside, where they stole mobile phones, iPads and cash. In one instance, the car keys to a blue Ford Grand C-Max were stolen, license plate MZG-MH 215.

The acts all took place in Luxembourg's border region, extending from tawern in Rheinland-Pfalz to Nohfelden-Türkismühle, Schwalbach and Perl in Saarland. For this reason, Grand Ducal Police have not ruled out that the spate of burglaries could extend into Luxembourg, and has warned the public not to leave electric garage openers, house keys and other valuables in their vehicles.
