The drugs network of Luxembourg City's Gare district was dealt another blow on Thursday after five dealers were arrested during a large-scale police operation.

More than 50 officers from the Luxembourg region were involved in the operation, as well as the canine unit and traffic police. Around 17:00 several premises were searched simultaneously, culminating in the arrest of five dealers on the spot and the confiscation of significant amounts of cocaine and marijuana. The dealers will appear before the examining magistrate, by order of the public prosecutor.

On Wednesday morning another dealer and his brokers had also been arrested along Rue Adolphe Fischer, whereupon several balls of cocaine were seized. The same day, a dealer was arrested after the Narcotics Department of the Service de Recherche et d'Enquêtes Criminelles (SREC) observed an exchange take place on Rue Zithe. A scan revealed that the man had 40-50 balls hidden in his gut.

An investigation conducted by SREC between 6 and 21 January 2016 also resulted in the arrest of five drug traffickers in the Gare.
