The total number of refugees arriving in Luxembourg in 2015 was 2,447, higher than even in 2011 and 2012, with August and September seeing a steep increase in asylum applications which continued until the end of the year.

The total corresponded to an average of just over 200 asylum applications eacn month, with 429 applications in December alone. The increase in the last five months of the year was primarily from Syria (669, corresponding to 27.3% overall), Iraq (539; 22%) and Afghanistan (214; 8.7%), with the Balkans (Kosovo, Albania, etc.) accounting for 25% of the total.

In addition to these figures, 46 Syrian refugees were taken in from Turkey in May.

In 2015, decisions were taken on a total of 1,245 applications for international protection in Luxembourg, with 200 classified as refugees (148 in 2014 and 125 in 2013). 525 applications were refused. Of these 200, 79 are from Syria, 27 from Erithrea, 15 from Iraq, 14 from Turkey, 11 from Ezhiopia
