Luxembourg authorities were set on a path-clearing mission on Tuesday after a total of 34 instances of detritus affecting streets were reported between midday and 15:30.
The most significant issues were caused by the wind bringing down trees, which then blocked the road and created traffic blockages. Just after 13:30, a construction barrier was thrown against cars in Luxembourg City, leading to serious injury, whilst falling insulation mats left a construction worker in critical condition in another part of the capital. Luxembourg City authorities announced Tuesday that parks in the capital would remain closed for the entire day for safety reasons and to avoid further harm caused.
The high levels of rain that fell also created flood areas on some roads, creating treacherous road conditions and slowing down traffic.
However, the violent wind speeds of between 90 km/h and 110 km/h experienced on Monday are expected to quieten over the coming week. Whilst rain and snow has been forecasted, wind speeds are expected to drop to 14 km/h over the next few days.
