The Grand Ducale Police have warned against keeping wild animals as pets after several were seized from a private residence.

A joint inspection by the nature management and police uncovered one deer and numerous wild birds, including four moorhens, two turtledoves, one wood pigeon, one goldfinch, two blackbirds and five sparrows.

The animals were taken to an animal recovery centre in Dudelange and the prosecution informed. Keeping wild animals is punishable according to the Nature Conservation Act, the Animal Protection Act and the Hunting Act, as it goes against the principles of animal welfare. Those who commit such acts risk a fine of up to €750,000 and possibly up to six months imprisonment.
